**When to use this page**

Use Data Upload when you have data that is not available through your integration. For example: performance ratings from a separate system, manually calculated values, or corrections to integration data. Each column in the table represents a cycle column that has been configured to accept uploaded data.

If no columns appear (or the page shows "Data Upload unavailable"), the cycle has no columns configured for upload. Check your cycle column configuration or contact support via chat at [support.pave.com](https://support.pave.com).

***

**The column table**

The table lists every column available for data upload. You can search columns by name. For each column you can see:

* **Column Name:** how the column appears in the planner
* **Data Type:** the kind of data the column expects (for example, Currency, Number, Text)
* **Last Uploaded:** date and time of the most recent upload for this column

Some columns appear more than once. Compensation columns that support recommendations show a separate **"\[Column Name]: Recommendation"** row. Budget columns show a **"\[Column Name]: Budget"** row alongside the base column.

Columns are listed alphabetically.

***

**Selecting columns before you act**

You must select one or more rows in the table before the **Generate CSV** and **Upload Data** buttons become active. Both buttons appear only after you make a row selection. Your selection determines which columns are included in the downloaded template and which columns are updated by your upload.

***

**Generating a CSV template**

Click **Generate CSV** after selecting your columns. This kicks off a background job. The button shows a loading state while the file is being prepared. You will see a notification banner when the file is ready, with a **Download** link. The same download link is also emailed to you.

The generated template includes any data you have previously uploaded for the selected columns, so you can use it as a starting point for updates.

***

**Filling in the template**

* Enter currency values without symbols. For example, `50000` not `$50,000`.
* For compensation columns, use each employee's **local currency**.
* For budget columns, use the **cycle's base currency** (for example, USD if your budget displays in USD, based on conversion rates set with your Implementation Manager).
* Each row must include the employee's email address. Rows with emails not found in your cycle are skipped automatically. You will see a notice after upload if any were ignored.

***

**Uploading data**

1. Select the columns you want to upload data for.
2. Click **Upload Data**.
3. If your selection includes new job columns (such as New Job Family, Title, or Level) but not a **Promotion?** column, a warning appears: anyone with a new job value will be automatically marked as promoted. You can continue or cancel and re-upload with the Promotion? column to control which employees are promoted.
4. The **Upload Column Data** modal opens. Review the instructions and download the CSV template if needed.
5. Set the override option (see below).
6. Click **Continue** to open the file importer, validate your file, and submit.

Upload Data is disabled when the cycle is finalized.

When your file is processing, a notification confirms the import is in progress. You will receive an email when the import is complete. If any rows were skipped due to unmatched emails, a notice shows one example of a skipped email.

**Override planner inputs**

The upload modal includes a checkbox: **"Override planner inputs with uploaded data."** This is unchecked by default each time you open the modal.

* **Unchecked (default):** Uploaded data fills only cells that planners have not yet edited. Existing planner inputs are preserved. The modal shows a blue notice: "Uploaded data will only fill cells not yet edited by a planner."
* **Checked:** Uploaded data overwrites all planner inputs for the selected columns, regardless of whether a planner has already entered a value. The modal shows a red notice: "Uploaded data will overwrite all planner inputs for the selected columns. This cannot be undone."

**This action is not reversible.** Overwritten planner inputs cannot be restored through the UI.

The override checkbox is hidden when all selected columns are Recommendation or Budget columns. Those column types are not affected by the override setting.

**Prior override warning:** If a column was previously uploaded with override enabled, a yellow warning appears in the modal explaining the prior override history. If override is currently unchecked, the warning notes that data for those columns will not take effect unless the box is checked. If override is checked, it confirms the uploaded data will take effect.

**Audit log**

Click **Audit log** (top right of the page) to open a timeline of all uploads for this cycle. Each entry shows:

* Date and time of the upload
* Who uploaded the data
* Which columns were included
* Whether the upload may have overridden manually saved planner inputs (noted when override was enabled)

The audit log is read-only. If no uploads have been made, it shows "No data has been uploaded."
