# Create an account and log in

## Before you start

Each person who uses Pave needs their own account, linked to the email address your company has on file for you. How you get started depends on how your company uses Pave.

If your team is signing up to access Pave's compensation benchmarking data, you create an account and can start using Pave right away.

If your company already uses Pave for compensation planning, total rewards, or managing your team's pay, your admin manages access. You may receive an invitation to join your company's Pave workspace, but the invitation does not create your account. You still need to sign up before you can log in.

## Create your account

1. Go to **app.pave.com/signup**.
2. Enter your email address and click **Continue**.
3. Choose how to sign up:
   * **Sign up with password**: you are taken to a form to enter your details.
   * **Sign up with Google**: if your email is a Google account or Google-hosted account, you can use Google to create your account instead.
4. If you chose password, enter your first name, last name, and a password. Accept the terms of use.
5. Click **Create account**.

### Which email to use

Use the email address your company has on file for you in their HR system.

* **Employees**: use your work email address. If your work email does not match the email in your company's HR system, Pave may not be able to match you to your company.
* **Candidates**: use the email address your employer sent your offer to. If that is a personal email address (such as Gmail or Outlook), you can still create an account as long as you have an active offer.

### Password requirements

Your password must be more than eight characters and include at least one uppercase letter, one lowercase letter, one number, and one special character.

## Verify your email

After you sign up, Pave sends a verification email to your address. Check your inbox and click the link to verify your account. It can take up to five minutes to receive this email, so check your spam folder if you do not see it.

You cannot access Pave until your email is verified. If the link has expired or is not working, go to **app.pave.com/signup**, enter your email, and click **Resend email** on the verification page.

1. Go to **app.pave.com/login**.
2. Enter your email address and click **Continue to login**.
3. Depending on how your company is configured, you see one of these options:
   * **Password**: enter your password on the login page.
   * **Google**: click **Log in with Google**.
   * **Single sign-on (SSO)**: you are redirected to your company's identity provider (such as Okta or Azure AD). Log in there, and you are returned to Pave.

Your company's admin determines which login methods are available.

## Reset your password

If you use a password to log in and need to reset it:

1. Go to **app.pave.com/login** and enter your email.
2. Click **Continue to login**.
3. On the login page, click **Forgot password**.
4. Check your email for a password reset link.
5. Click the link and set a new password.

Password reset only works for accounts that use a password to log in. If your company uses SSO, your account does not have a Pave password. Log in through your company's identity provider instead.

## Common issues

* **"I was invited but can't log in."** An invitation does not create your account. Sign up at **app.pave.com/signup** with the email that received the invitation.
* **"Something went wrong" at login or when resetting your password.** You may not have an account (sign up at **app.pave.com/signup**), your employee data may not have synced yet, or your account uses SSO and does not have a Pave password.
* **"No matching email found" or blank white page after login.** Your employee data has not synced from your company's HR system, or your access permissions have not been configured.
* **"User is not assigned to the client application" (Okta).** You have not been assigned to the Pave app in your company's Okta instance.
* **I changed companies.** Create a new account at **app.pave.com/signup** with your new work email. Your previous account is no longer accessible.
* **I can't access my candidate account anymore.** Candidate access is tied to an active offer. If the offer closed and you have started at the company, create a new account with your company email.
* **My company uses a .edu email domain.** Pave classifies .edu addresses as personal emails, so the standard sign up flow may not work. Specific .edu domains can be allowlisted for company use.

If none of the above applies, try updating your browser, clearing cookies and cache, using a different browser, or going to **app.pave.com/login** directly.
