# Create dashboards, presentations, and documents

## What is this?
Pave Agent can turn an analysis into a finished file you can share: an interactive dashboard, a slide deck, a Word document, a spreadsheet, a PDF report, or a chart image. In Pave Agent, these files are called artifacts. You can preview each one inside Pave Agent, ask for changes, and download it when it is ready.

Artifacts are built from the same data Pave Agent uses to answer your questions, so the numbers in a deck or dashboard match the analysis in your conversation.

## What you can create
| Format | What you get |
|---|---|
| **Dashboard (HTML)** | An interactive page with charts, tables, and controls such as filters and tabs. Good for exploring a result or comparing data cuts without asking a new question each time. |
| **Presentation (PPTX)** | An editable PowerPoint deck in Pave's style, with charts you can edit in PowerPoint. Good for leadership and board updates. |
| **Word document (DOCX)** | A formatted document with headings, lists, and tables. Good for a written summary you send to a business partner. |
| **Spreadsheet (XLSX)** | A formatted Excel workbook. Good for handing numbers to someone who wants to work with them. |
| **PDF** | A formatted report with page layout and tables. Good for a finished document that should look the same for everyone. |
| **Markdown (MD)** | Formatted text you can copy into Slack, email, or another document. |
| **Image (PNG or SVG)** | A standalone chart or diagram you can drop into your own slides. |
| **Data file (CSV or JSON)** | Raw data for use in another tool. |

Pave Agent can also show a chart directly in the conversation while it works through an analysis, without creating a separate file.

## Ask for an artifact
Name the format you want and describe what should be in it. A file name or extension (for example, "an .xlsx") counts as asking for that format.

> "Build an interactive dashboard showing current headcount by department, with filters for level and role."

> "Create a PowerPoint presentation summarizing this competitive analysis for our executive team."

> "Give me a chart image of these results I can drop into a slide deck."

> "Put this breakdown in an Excel spreadsheet."

You can ask in the same conversation where you ran the analysis. Pave Agent builds the file from the results it already has.

Pave Agent may also create a file without being asked when an answer is long or a table is large, such as a full report or a breakdown with many rows. When it does, it gives you a short summary of the key findings in the conversation and points you to the file.

## Preview an artifact
When Pave Agent finishes a file, a card appears below its response. The card shows the file's title, its format, and its size.

Select the card to open the preview panel on the right side of the screen. The panel shows one artifact at a time.

- **Dashboards** are fully interactive. Any filters, tabs, or hover details in the dashboard work in the preview.
- **Presentations, Word documents, spreadsheets, and PDFs** open in a scrollable document viewer.
- **Markdown** appears as formatted text with a **Copy** button that copies the full text.
- **Images** are shown scaled to fit the panel.

To close the panel, select the **X**, press Esc, or select anywhere outside it.

CSV and JSON files do not open in the preview panel. Download them from the card instead.

## Download an artifact
Artifacts are listed in the **Artifacts** section of the panel on the right side of the conversation. The list includes every artifact from the conversation, newest first.

1. Find the file in the **Artifacts** section.
2. Select the download icon next to it.

Selecting the file's name in the list opens the preview, the same as selecting its card. CSV and JSON files also have a download icon directly on their card in the conversation.

The right-side panel appears once Pave Agent has responded with at least one source or artifact. You can hide it with **Collapse pane** and bring it back with **Expand pane**. On smaller screens the panel is hidden, but artifact cards still appear in the conversation.

## Revise an artifact
Ask for changes in the same conversation, the way you would with a colleague:

> "Move the recommendation slide to the front and shorten the titles."

> "Add a filter for pay zone to the dashboard."

Pave Agent updates the file and shows the new version as a card on its latest response. The card on the earlier response still opens the earlier version, so you can go back to it. There is no version history view. Each version is its own card and its own row in the **Artifacts** list.

## Keep an artifact
Artifacts are temporary unless you save them. A temporary file shows **Temporary** next to its size, and its download link expires after 7 days. After that, the download shows **Link expired** and you need to ask Pave Agent to generate the file again.

To keep a file, ask Pave Agent to save it:

> "Save this deck."

Saved files go to your file library:

1. In the Pave Agent chat header, open **Context**.
2. Go to the **Files** tab.
3. Switch the category to **Generated**.

Saved files are visible only to you. If you ask Pave Agent to share a saved file with your company, it becomes visible to everyone at your company who uses Pave Agent, and it shows a **Shared** label. Pave Agent asks before sharing if your request is unclear. You can delete a saved file from the **Files** tab. A file shared with your company can only be deleted by a company admin.

In the **Generated** category, dashboards, presentations, Word documents, and spreadsheets do not have their own type filter. Choose **All types** to see them.

## Things to know
**Artifacts are snapshots.** The data in a dashboard, deck, or document is fixed at the moment Pave Agent builds it. A dashboard does not refresh when your data in Pave changes. To get current numbers, ask Pave Agent to rebuild it.

**Dashboards are self-contained.** A dashboard carries its own data and cannot load anything from outside the file. It also cannot send questions or actions back to the conversation. To go further, ask Pave Agent in the chat.

**Pave Agent creates new files. It does not edit yours.** It cannot open and edit a PowerPoint, Excel, or Word file you give it. You can still upload an image or PDF of a slide or report as a reference for what you want, and ask Pave Agent to build a new file based on it.

**Presentations follow Pave's style by default.** Decks are widescreen (16:9), usually four to eight slides, with slide titles that state the takeaway. Each slide has a "Pave" and "Confidential" footer. If you want a different length or structure, say so in your request. Because the file is a regular PowerPoint deck, you can also change anything after you download it.

**To revise a file in a new conversation, save it first.** Temporary artifacts belong to the conversation they were created in. Saved files are available to Pave Agent in any conversation.

**There are no sharing links.** To share an artifact with someone, download it and send the file.

**Large files may download without a preview.** If a file is too large to preview, you can still download it from the **Artifacts** section.

**Artifacts only contain data Pave Agent can see.** See the article on [what data Pave Agent can see](https://support.pave.com/en-us/articles/what-data-pave-agent-can-see-V7OoxX9mwS).

**Creating an artifact does not change your compensation data.** Nothing in a dashboard, deck, or document writes back into Pave.

## Frequently asked questions
**Can I tell Pave Agent how I want my artifacts to look every time?**
Yes. Add your formatting preferences to your Guidance, or create a Skill for a deliverable you build regularly. See the articles on [setting up Guidance](https://support.pave.com/en-us/articles/set-up-guidance-11udENEEc7) and [setting up Skills](https://support.pave.com/en-us/articles/set-up-skills-NmIyEmcUD5).

**Do my artifacts come back when I reopen an old conversation?**
Yes. Artifact cards reappear when you reopen a conversation from your history. Download links for temporary files still expire 7 days after the file was created, so save anything you want to keep.

**What is the difference between an artifact and a CSV export?**
When a query result runs past roughly 200 rows, Pave Agent attaches the full result as a CSV download automatically. An artifact is a file you ask for, such as a dashboard or deck, built and formatted for sharing. See the article on [uploading files and exporting results](https://support.pave.com/en-us/articles/upload-files-and-export-results-dQKCg9sAs1).
