# Edit Bands (Jobs Based)

After adding bands and reviewing benchmarks, you'll edit compensation ranges to finalize your pricing. This guide covers the most common band editing workflows in a jobs-based band set.

---

## Overview

All band editing happens in the Bands tab with bulk edit operations. The typical workflow:

1. **Align to market data** - Snap bands to benchmark percentiles
2. **Apply midpoint progression** - Create consistent pay progressions across ranks
3. **Adjust band width** - Set min/max spreads around midpoints
4. **Apply pay zone differentials** - Adjust bands across locations
5. **Adjust bands** - Increase/decrease by percentage
6. **Round bands** - Clean up values to standard increments

### Accessing Band Editing

1. Navigate to **Market Pricing**
2. Open your band set
3. Click the **Bands** tab
4. Select bands (checkboxes)
5. Click edit operations in the toolbar

## Common Workflows

### Annual Compensation Refresh

**Typical sequence:**

1. **Align to market data**
   * Select all bands
   * Align min/mid/max to benchmark percentiles (P25/P50/P75)
   * Review changes
2. **Apply midpoint progression**
   * Select bands by ladder
   * Set progression % (e.g., 15%)
   * Choose anchor rank
   * Apply to ensure consistent pay steps
3. **Adjust band width**
   * Set min to mid spread (e.g., 20%)
   * Set mid to max spread (e.g., 20%)
   * Apply for consistent band shapes
4. **Round bands**
   * Round to nearest $5K or $10K
   * Clean up decimal values

## Edit Operations

### 1. Align to Market Data

Snap band values to benchmark percentiles.

**Modal fields:**

**Align min to**

* Dropdown: "Select percentile"
* Options: Composite, 25th (Median), 40th (Median), 50th (Median), 60th (Median), 75th (Median), 90th (Median)

**Align mid to**

* Dropdown: "Select percentile"
* Same options

**Align max to**

* Dropdown: "Select percentile"
* Same options

**Pay type**

* Dropdown: "Select pay types"
* Choose which pay types to align

**Apply** button

**Important:** When aligning to a percentile (e.g., median), it will include all available percentiles even if non-weighted. The system uses all market data points for that percentile, not just weighted benchmarks.

**Example:**

```
Current: $140K - $160K - $180K
Align to: Min=25th, Mid=50th, Max=75th
Result: Bands snap to those benchmark values
```

### 2. Apply Midpoint Progression

Create logical pay progressions across rank levels.

**Modal fields:**

**Progression %**

* Text input field
* Example: 15% means each rank is 15% higher than previous

**Anchor progression on rank (optional)**

* Dropdown: "Select rank"
* Choose which rank to anchor and progress from

**Pay type**

* Dropdown: "Select pay types"

**Apply** button

**How it works:**

```
Anchor: Rank 3 at $175K midpoint
Progression: 15%
Result:
Rank 2: $175K / 1.15 = $152K
Rank 3: $175K (anchor)
Rank 4: $175K × 1.15 = $201K
Rank 5: $201K × 1.15 = $231K
```

Description: "Use a progression % to fill in missing midpoints or fix irregular progressions."

Note: When you apply midpoint progression, it keeps band width consistent.

### 3. Adjust Band Width

Set consistent min/max spreads around midpoints.

**Modal fields:**

**Adjust min to mid**

* Text input field with % and # toggles
* Example: 20% below midpoint

**Adjust mid to max**

* Text input field with % and # toggles
* Example: 20% above midpoint

**Pay type**

* Dropdown: "Select pay types"

**Apply** button

**Example:**

```
Midpoint: $150K
Min to mid: 20% → Min = $120K
Mid to max: 20% → Max = $180K
```

### 4. Apply Pay Zone Differential

Adjust bands using pay zone relative values.

**Modal fields:**

**Pay zone** and **Relative value** (display only)

* Shows: "Brazil" with "30% of United States - Tier 1"
* This is the configured differential from the pay zone settings

**Pay type**

* Dropdown: "Select pay types"

**Apply** button

Description: "Use relative pay zone values to generate band values."

**How it works:** The system applies the relative value percentage configured in the pay zone settings. If Brazil is set to 30% of US Tier 1, all selected band values are multiplied by 0.30.

### 5. Adjust Bands

Increase or decrease bands by percentage.

**Modal fields:**

**Adjustment**

* Toggle: "Increase" or "Decrease"
* Text input field
* Toggle: "%" or dollar amount

**Pay type**

* Dropdown: "Select pay types"

**Apply** button

**Examples:**

```
Increase by 5%:
Before: $150K - $175K - $200K
After: $157.5K - $183.75K - $210K
Increase by $10K:
Before: $150K - $175K - $200K
After: $160K - $185K - $210K
```

### 6. Round Bands

Clean up values to standard increments.

**Modal fields:**

**Round to the nearest (in local currency)**

* Dropdown: "Select value"
* Options include standard rounding increments

**Pay type**

* Dropdown: "Select pay types"

**Apply** button

**Example:**

```
Round to nearest $5,000:
Before: $154,234 - $178,956 - $203,678
After: $155,000 - $180,000 - $205,000
```
