# Employee distribution on bands

## **View employee distribution in bands**

### **What is employee distribution?**

Employee distribution shows you where your employees actually sit inside their band. Instead of reading a range and a headcount separately, you see the people plotted on the range, so you can tell at a glance how aligned your employees are to your comp structure. 

To turn it on, select the graph icon next to **Base pay range**, **Variable pay range**, or **Total pay range**.


### **Employees on Band in Data Grid**

You can see the employees at a high level on the band data grid. Employees in blue are in band, employees in red are out of band.

### **Band sidepeek**

Select the side sheet icon on a band to open its details. This lists the employees you have access to on that band and where each one sits, so a band showing three employees might resolve into two within band and one out of band.

Filter that list to **In band** or **Out of band** to work through a specific group.

### **What band sets have employee distribution**

Employee distribution is available on live and draft band sets, for base pay, variable pay, and total pay.

It is not available on merit cycle sets or archived band sets. Total direct comp and the equity pay types do not show employee distribution.

### **What access you need**

Seeing employees on a band takes two permissions, both at view level:

* **Bands**, which gets you into the band set
* **Aggregated employee data**, which is what reveals the employees on a band

Without both, the bands still load, but no employees appear on any of them.

### **Frequently asked questions**

* **Why do I see no employees on any band?** Most often you are missing view access to aggregated employee data, which hides employees on every band at once. If you do have it, check that the bands have HRIS matchers catching your population, because employee matching is what connects an employee to a band.
