# Filter Market Data benchmarks

Market Data filters let you narrow benchmark data to match your company's profile. You can filter by location, company stage, industry, ownership structure, and more to see compensation benchmarks for the population most relevant to you.

By default, Market Data shows benchmarks across all companies in the US. You can apply one or more filters to focus on a specific segment, or use a Peer Group to apply a saved set of filter criteria.

## Available filters

### Location

Choose a geographic location for your benchmarks. (By default, location is set to US All.) You can select one location at a time.

### Company stage

Filter by firmographic characteristics to benchmark against companies similar to yours. You can select multiple values within a single company stage type.

There are four company stage types, each with its own set of ranges:

**Capital Raised**

* $0-5M
* $5-20M
* $20-100M
* $100-200M
* $200-500M
* $500M+

**Number of Employees**

* 1-25
* 26-50
* 51-100
* 101-200
* 201-500
* 501-1000
* 1001+

**Revenue**

* <$1M
* $1-5M
* $5-10M
* $10-25M
* $25-50M
* $50-100M
* $100-250M
* $250-500M
* $500M+

Revenue filtering is only available after you submit your company's revenue stage in Pave. If you haven't submitted it, this option is disabled.

**Valuation**

* $0-25M
* $25-100M
* $100-500M
* $500M-1B
* $1-5B
* $5B+

You can select multiple ranges within any of these company stage types. For example, selecting both "$20-100M" and "$100-200M" under Capital Raised shows benchmarks for companies across that combined range.

### Company ownership

Filter benchmarks by company ownership structure. Options are:

* **All** (default): includes both private and public companies
* **Private**: only privately held companies
* **Public**: only publicly traded companies

This filter is not available when viewing equity data as 409a or Percent Ownership.

### Industry

Filter by industry to benchmark against companies in a specific sector. You can select multiple industries and sub-industries at the same time.

By default, benchmarks include all industries.

### Founders and non-founders

Filter by founder status. This filter only appears when you are viewing C-level benchmarks.

\[Screnshot: Founder status filter in C-level Benchmark.\]

### Variable pay

Filter by whether employees in the benchmark population receive variable compensation. Options are:

* **All employees** (default): includes everyone regardless of variable pay
* **Employees receiving variable pay**: only employees with a variable pay component
* **Employees not receiving variable pay**: only employees without variable pay

This is most useful for roles where variable compensation is common (for example, Account Executives, SDRs, etc.). Filtering to employees receiving variable pay shows compensation benchmarks for the population that is actually on a variable plan, rather than the full population for that role.

### Currency

Convert benchmark data into a different currency. (By default, the currency is set to USD.) Pave converts values using current foreign exchange rates.

### Peer Groups

Apply a saved Peer Group to filter your benchmarks by a predefined set of company criteria. Peer Groups are available to Market Data Pro customers.

When you select a Peer Group, all other filters (except Location) reset to their defaults. You cannot combine a Peer Group with other filters. To use other filters, clear the Peer Group selection first.

If other filters are active when you try to select a Peer Group, Pave prompts you to clear them: "Clear all filters except Location to select a Peer Group."

For more on creating and managing Peer Groups, see [Create and manage Peer Groups](create-and-manage-peer-groups.md).

## Combining filters

Most filters can be used together. For example, you can filter by a specific location, company stage range, and industry at the same time to narrow your benchmark population.

The main exception is Peer Groups. When a Peer Group is active, the following filters reset to their defaults and cannot be changed:

* Company stage
* Company ownership
* Industry
* Founders and non-founders

Location and Currency remain independent and can be changed regardless of whether a Peer Group is selected.

## FAQ

### Why is the Revenue company stage option disabled?

Revenue filtering requires you to submit your company's revenue stage in Pave first. Select "Submit revenue stage" from the tooltip to provide this information.

### Why don't I see the founders and non-founders filter?

This filter only appears when viewing C-level benchmarks. Select a C-level job family or track to see it.

### Can I select more than one value in a filter?

Company stage, and Industry support multi-select. Location, Company ownership, Founders and non-founders, Variable pay, Currency, and Peer Groups are single-select.
