# [Legacy] Editing Bands

## **Identify problematic bands**

### **Calculated Columns**

You can turn on additional columns about your bands, the market, and your employees and easily sort and filter these columns to identify and analyze problematic bands. Here is a [link to that documentation](https://support.pave.com/en-us/articles/calculated-columns-4DoLLZj6Tn).

### **Advanced and saved filters**

Use advanced and saved filters to identify problematic bands using filter criteria. You can save filters to easily reference problematic bands over time and share that saved filtered view with others to address those bands. Here is a [link to that documentation. ](https://support.pave.com/en-us/articles/advanced-filters-s4SC1buzT0)

## **Edit your bands**

**\*These editing features are available for job bands and grade bands\***

Align band values to market data

Align the min/mid/max of your band to the composite benchmark or market data percentiles.

* **If you align the mid to the composite benchmark,** your band mid will update to your chosen composite benchmark, but your min and max will not change. Your band width will be held constant when making this edit.
* **If you align min, mid and/or max to a chosen percentile**, your bands will match to the median of all market data associated with the band at that percentile, regardless of source. Only the percentile options that are associated with the band set will be available in the drop down.
  * You will receive an error if the min > mid, mid > max or max < min or mid.

## **Midpoint Progression**

### **Create a smooth band progression**

After you’ve aligned your band(s) to the market, you may want to keep a smooth progression from one band mid to the next by updating the midpoint progression.

### **What is midpoint progression? Why is it important?**

* It’s the distance from one band mid to the next
* Helps you correct for variability in band midpoints (caused by variability in market data)
* Applies the same progression logic and band width to all bands in the family

### **How do you use midpoint progression?**

1. To create a smooth midpoint progression, you will need to select a single ladder, either by filtering down to one ladder or selecting bands in a single ladder. To adjust the midpoint progression of your bands, select the midpoint progression edit, the pay types and the % midpoint progression you want to use.

2. You can choose to use an anchor level or not. If you don’t select an anchor level, the midpoint progression will create a progression from the midpoint of the lowest level in the the ladder (e.g. IC1) to highest level (e.g. IC5). We recommend anchoring your midpoint progression off of the band & market data that you feel most confident in or has the most number of market data points (e.g. SWE - IC3). Then, the midpoint progression of the levels above and below will be based on that anchor band’s midpoint.

   **\*if you are missing a level in your band structure (e.g. only have a IC1 and IC3) your midpoint progression will reflect the distance from the mid of IC1 to the mid of IC3, not the mid of IC1 to the mid of IC2\***

## Band width

**Update your band width to ensure even bands**

You can update the min/max of the band while keeping the midpoint constant, either by adding a:

* % above and below the mid
* $ amount from min to max
* Set band width to be Symmetric or Asymmetric

## **Adjust band values**

**Increase or decrease the bands by a specific % amount**

## **Snap to pay zone edit**

**Update your bands based on your pay zone differential set up in Pay Zone Manager**

* Select snap to pay zones in the edit tool bar
* Select your pay types and rounding, press preview changes
* The bands that are in pay zones with a differential relationship to another pay zone will update to reflect the differential value. For example:
  * US-1 Pay Zone contains SF and NY
  * US -2 Pay Zone contains Austin and Boston and is 90% of Pay zone 1
  * By selecting “Snap to pay zone value,” your US-2 will will update to be 90% of US-1
* Note:
  * Only bands in pay zones with differential relationships to other bands will be updated
  * If you change the pay zone differential values in Pay Zone Manager, the latest values will be used

## **Round bands**

**Round bands so they are even**

1. Round bands to the nearest 100, 500, etc.
2. By checking constant rounding, bands will be rounded to the selected value after every additional bulk edit. ![](https://support.pave.com/api/attachments.redirect?id=5060d091-9138-44dd-ae97-90d354a2dc38)

:::info
Note: The bands will be rounded to the nearest selected amount, rather than rounding up or down. For example, if the value is $100,140 and you round to the nearest 100, the number would be updated to $100,100 not $100,200.

:::

Undo

**Undo your most recent edit**

1. Allows you to revert to the values that you had before your most recent edit, including bulk edits and manual edits

Redo

**Redo your undone edit**

1. Allows you to reapply an undone edit, in the same order you undid that edit
2. If you undo and then make a bulk edit, your redo will no longer apply

Delete

**Delete band(s)**

1. If you click delete, the selected bands will be deleted.
2. You can undo the deletion, by clicking “undo”

:::info
Note: For all edits, once they have been saved, you can not return to the previous version of the bands.

## **Analyze & edit your grade bands**

### **Analyze your grade bands**

* From the Market Pricing tool, click a band to drill into that bands data. ![](https://support.pave.com/api/attachments.redirect?id=5e508669-b451-4ce2-875a-7476fb4ddc52)

   ![](https://support.pave.com/api/attachments.redirect?id=27874482-41bb-4e4d-8218-400c3b9f71e5)
* The Sidepeek tab allows you to select the compensation type at the top of the tab. You will see:
  * Employees matching to the band
  * Employee distribution within the band
  * Average Compa Ratio
  * Average Range Penetration

      ![](https://support.pave.com/api/attachments.redirect?id=78a95c56-1000-4b9f-8f8c-8b668e790dee)

* In the Band sidepeek benchmarks tab, view the benchmarks for each job, which is weighted by the number of employees in the job. At the bottom of the sidepeek, view the grade composite benchmark of all the market data in the grade.

* You can update the job weighting by editing the default weighting.
* In Band Manager, use the calculated columns and advanced filters to identify problematic bands
