# Saved filters in Market Data

## What are saved filters?

Saved filters let you save a combination of Market Data filters and apply it again in one click. When implemented across your organization, saved filters ensure that all users are benchmarking the same data set, and also save you time each time you enter Market Data.

All Market Data users can:

* **Save your own filters** that only you can see
* **Update a saved filter** at any point in the future

Additionally, Admin users can:

* **Share filters with your company** so everyone benchmarks against the same market
* **Set a company default** that applies automatically when people open Market Data

In Market Data, saved filters appear in the upper left of the Market Data benchmark screen.

### What a saved filter includes

A saved filter stores the company attribute filters you've applied:

* **Capital Raised**
* **Headcount**
* **Valuation**
* **Revenue**
* **Industry**
* **Ownership**
* **Founder Status**

Note: A saved filter does not store your location, currency, recent hire setting, chart or table view, or cash and equity settings. For example, if you're viewing benchmarks in London in USD and you apply a saved filter, your display will stay stay in London in USD.

For details on each filter, see [Filter Market Data benchmarks](https://support.pave.com/en-us/articles/filter-market-data-benchmarks-LVDtKo2ZtE).

### Saved filters and Peer Groups

Saved filters and Peer Groups both narrow the dta that you're looking at, but they work differently:

* **A saved filter** is a combination of company attributes, such as "$20–100M capital raised and 101–200 employees." It includes data from every company that matches those attributes
* **A Peer Group** is a set of specific companies you choose. Peer Groups are available with Market Data Pro packages

Both appear in the saved filter picker in the upper left. You can use one or the other, not both at once. Applying a saved filter clears any selected Peer Group, and selecting a Peer Group clears the saved filter. For more on Peer Groups, see [Create and manage Peer Groups](https://support.pave.com/en-us/articles/create-and-manage-peer-groups-in-market-data-S9GFobnWq6).

## Sharing saved filters

There are two kinds of saved filters:

* **Personal saved filters** are visible only to you. Anyone with access to Market Data can create them. Only you can update, rename, or delete them.
* **Company saved filters** are visible to everyone at your company who has access to Market Data. Creating, updating, renaming, or deleting them requires a role with edit access to the Saved Filters permission. The default Admin role includes this permission. Anyone with this permission can edit or delete any company saved filter, regardless of who created it.

When you first save it, you will choose whether a filter is visible at the personal or company level. This choice cannot be edited later. To move a personal filter to your company's list, save the same filters again as a company filter.

### Company default

If you have edit access to the Saved Filters permission, you can set one company saved filter as the company default. The default applies automatically when someone opens Market Data in a new session. The company default is marked with a star in the list.

At any time, users can change the filters they are using. These filters will continue to apply as they switch betwen locations or jobs within a single session. However, when a user closes the tab or moves to another page on Market Data, the filters will reset to default.

Your company can have one default at a time. Setting a new default replaces the previous one. There are no personal defaults.

# How-to's

## Save a filter

1. In Market Data, select **Filter** and apply the company attribute filters you want to save.

2. Select **Save to new company attribute**, next to the saved filter picker.
3. Enter a **Name**. (Names must be unique)
4. To share the filter with your company, select the option to save it as a company filter. (This option only appears if you have edit access to the Saved Filters permission.)
5. To make it your company's default, select **Set as default**. (This option is only available for company filters.)

6. Select **Save**.

The new saved filter is now selected, and its name appears in the picker.

You cannot save while a Peer Group is selected, because selecting a Peer Group hides all company attribute filters. Clear the Peer Group first, then apply and save your filters.

## Apply a saved filter or Peer Group

1. Select the saved filter picker at the far left of the control bar.
2. On the **Company attributes** tab, select a saved filter.

Company saved filters are listed first, followed by your personal filters under **My company attributes**. Filters are listed in the order they were created, oldest first.

Applying a saved filter replaces all of your current company attribute filters. Any filter the saved filter doesn't include resets to its default. For example, if you have an Industry filter applied and choose a saved filter that only includes Headcount, Industry resets to its default.

### When a saved filter doesn't fully apply

Some filters only apply to certain jobs. For example, the filter Founder Status isn't available for every job. If a saved filter includes a filter that doesn't apply to what you're viewing, Pave skips that filter and shows a message next to the picker with the number of saved filters that no longer apply. The rest of the saved filter still applies.

### Unsaved changes

If you change your filters after applying a saved filter, a blue dot appears on the picker to show you have unsaved changes. You can then:

* **Save changes**: update the saved filter with your current filters. This option only appears if you can edit the saved filter.
* **Save to new company attribute**: save your current filters as a new saved filter and leave the original unchanged.
* **Reset**: discard your changes and return to the saved filter's filters.

## Manage saved filters

To manage a saved filter, open the saved filter picker, hover over the filter, and select the **⋮** menu. Rename and Delete only appear on filters you can edit.

* **Rename**: change the filter's name. Renaming doesn't change its filters.
* **Duplicate**: open the save window with the name filled in as "\[name] copy." The new saved filter uses the filters currently applied on the page, not the filters stored in the saved filter you duplicated.
* **Set as default** or **Remove as default**: make a company filter the company default, or remove it as the default. Only available on company filters, to people with edit access to the Saved Filters permission.
* **Delete**: permanently delete the filter. Pave asks you to confirm first. Deleting a company filter removes it for everyone at your company.

### Start over

To clear the selected saved filter and reset all filters to their defaults, select **Start new filter** at the bottom of the saved filter picker. This option appears once at least one saved filter exists. If you have unsaved changes, Pave asks you to confirm before discarding them.

## Things to know

* **Copying the page link shares your current filters, not the saved filter.** The person you send it to sees the same filters applied, but the saved filter isn't selected for them.
* **Company saved filters stay when their creator leaves.** A company filter remains available after the person who created it is removed from Pave. Personal filters are deleted along with the user's account.
