Manage notifications

What are notifications?

Pave sends notifications to keep you informed about activity across your account, including updates in Compensation Planning, Total Rewards, and Visual Offer Letter. Notifications can be delivered through three channels:

  • Email: sent to the email address associated with your Pave account.
  • In-app: appear in the notification menu inside Pave.
  • Slack (beta): sent as direct messages through your company's connected Slack workspace.

Your organization's admin controls which notifications are available. Within those settings, each user can choose which notifications they want to receive and through which channels.

Notification channels

Email

Email notifications are sent from Pave to your account email. Each email includes a summary of the event and a link back to the relevant page in Pave.

In-app

In-app notifications appear in the notification menu inside Pave. Each notification shows a title, how long ago it was sent, and a link to the relevant page. Unread notifications are marked with a red dot.

Slack

When your admin connects Slack, notifications can also be delivered as Slack direct messages. Slack notifications are currently in beta.

View your notifications

To view your notifications, click the bell icon in the top navigation bar. A dropdown menu appears with your recent notifications.

From this menu, you can:

  • Click a notification to navigate to the relevant page in Pave. This also marks the notification as read.
  • Mark all as read using the envelope icon in the top-right corner of the menu.
  • Open your notification preferences by clicking the gear icon (see the next section).

If you have no notifications, the menu displays "You have no notifications."

Manage your notification preferences

Each user can control which notifications they receive and through which channels.

  1. Click the bell icon in the top navigation bar.
  2. Click the gear icon in the notification menu header.
  3. In the Manage my notifications modal, toggle each notification on or off per channel (email, in-app, Slack).
  4. Click Save.

Notifications are grouped by category: Compensation Planning, Total Rewards, and Offer Letters. Each notification shows a title and a short description of what triggers it.

If a notification appears greyed out with a message that says "This setting has been disabled by your organization," your admin has turned off that notification at the company level. You cannot re-enable it from your preferences.

If you have admin-level permissions, the modal footer includes a Manage org notifications link that takes you directly to the admin notification settings page.

Manage notification settings for your organization

Admins can control which notifications are available to everyone in the organization. When an admin disables a notification, it is turned off for all users and hidden from their individual preference modals.

To access the admin notification settings:

  1. Go to Settings > Notifications.
  2. The settings page displays all available notifications organized by category (Compensation Planning, Total Rewards, Offer Letters), with a column for each channel (email, in-app, Slack).
  3. Check or uncheck the box for each notification and channel combination.
  4. Click Save.

To discard your changes without saving, click Cancel. If you try to navigate away with unsaved changes, Pave prompts you to confirm.

Permission required

The notification settings page requires a role with edit access to the Notifications permission. This permission can be added to any role. The default Admin role includes it.

Connect Slack

An admin can connect your company's Slack workspace to Pave to enable Slack notifications for the organization. Pave is not listed in the Slack App Directory, so the connection must be set up from within Pave.

Permission required

The person connecting Slack must have:

  • In Pave: a role with edit access to either the Notifications (settings.notifications) or Slack Integration (settings.notifications.slack) permission. The default Admin role includes both.
  • In Slack: permission to approve app installations for your Slack workspace. This is typically a Slack workspace admin or owner, or someone authorized to install apps by your Slack admin team.

Steps to connect

  1. In Pave, go to Settings > Notifications.
  2. On the notification settings page, find the Slack column on the right side of the table. If Slack is not yet connected, you will see a Connect Slack button.
  3. Click Connect Slack. A new browser tab opens to Slack's authorization page.
  4. On the Slack authorization page, confirm you are signed in to the correct Slack workspace and click Allow to grant Pave access.
  5. After authorizing, you are redirected back to Pave. The Slack column now shows checkboxes for each notification type.
  6. Check the box for each notification you want delivered via Slack, then click Save.

Once connected, individual users can toggle Slack notifications on or off in their own notification preferences.

Slack notifications are currently in beta.

Things to know

  • Pave marketing emails are managed separately from product notifications. Unsubscribing from product notifications does not affect marketing emails.
  • Notifications are sent only to the relevant person. For example, when a comment is left on an employee in a Compensation Planning worksheet, only the active planner for that employee receives the notification, not all planners in the cycle.
  • When an admin disables a notification, it is turned off immediately for all users. Users do not receive a notification about the change.
  • New employee invitations (Total Rewards) are not shown in the user preference modal because they only apply to users who have not yet created an account.
