Troubleshoot Pave Agent

Responses and timing

A response stopped partway or never arrived: Pave Agent tries to recover a stalled response for a short window. If it cannot, it tells you to check your history or start a new chat.

Check your history first, using the clock icon in the chat header. A response that was still being worked on often finishes and lands there on its own, so re-asking repeats work that is already done. Ask again only if the conversation shows no answer.

A long analysis is taking a while: Complex analysis takes longer than a lookup. Benchmarking an entire org across every pay component and location takes a few minutes by design. If you do not need the full picture, narrowing to one function, one region, or one level range keeps the request smaller.

Answers that look wrong

The numbers do not match what I expect: Work through these in order.

  1. Is the data loaded in Pave? See the article on what data Pave Agent can see.
  2. Are your employees matched to bands?
  3. Are you comparing against the band set you intend? Pave Agent uses your live band sets by default rather than draft or archived ones, so ask explicitly if you want a different one.
  4. Is your annualization basis or currency assumption written into your Guidance?

If the numbers still look wrong, check your Guidance. An assumption written there applies to every question and is easy to forget about.

It used the wrong currency, metric, or basis: Put the rule in your Guidance rather than repeating it in every question. A currency default, a preferred metric such as range penetration over compa ratio, or a non-standard annualization basis all belong there. See the article on setting up Guidance.

It flagged a band as below market that we set deliberately: If a range is derived by policy rather than benchmarked on its own, for example a lower geo zone set as a percentage of a higher one, say so in your Guidance. Without that, the gap looks like a finding rather than a decision.

I cannot find data I know we have: Pave Agent can only use what is loaded in Pave. If a figure lives in a system that is not integrated, it is not available.

Ask it what it has for that team or job and it will tell you. If the data is in a spreadsheet, you can upload the file and ask it to work from that instead. See the article on what data Pave Agent can see.

Skills and Guidance

The Skills tab is empty: Your company has not loaded Pave's built-in Skills yet. Open Context, go to the Skills tab, and select Load Pave Skills. This is a one-time step.

It is not using a Skill I expect: Check that the Skill is active. Then check its description, because that is what Pave Agent matches your question against. A description that names the situation the Skill applies to works better than one that names its subject. See the article on setting up Skills.

My Guidance edits disappeared: Guidance is only saved when you select Save. Closing Context with the X button warns you about unsaved changes, but pressing Escape or clicking outside the panel closes it without warning and discards them. Save before you navigate away.

My colleague does not see the correction I made: What Pave Agent picks up from your conversations is specific to you and does not carry to your teammates. Anything that should apply to everyone belongs in your Guidance or in a Skill, both of which are shared across your company.

Files and downloads

I uploaded a file and it is not being used: Two things to check. First, the description: Pave Agent decides whether to open a file based on how it is described, so a vague description makes it less likely to be used. Second, the size: a file can be within the 100 MB upload limit and still be too large for Pave Agent to read. A focused extract works better than a whole dataset.

My download link stopped working: Download links work only while that chat is active.

Exports you have already downloaded once are kept in your file library: open Context, go to the Files tab, and switch the category to Exports. A download link you never used does not leave a file behind, so if the export is not there, run the question again.

I cannot get a result out of the conversation: A download link appears automatically when a result runs past roughly 200 rows. Smaller results are answered in the conversation without one. Downloads are CSV files, and chart, Word, and PDF output are not available. See the article on uploading files and exporting results.

Things Pave Agent does not do

I cannot save this back into Pave: Pave Agent does not change your compensation data. It cannot save a range into Market Pricing, edit a pay band, change a merit cycle, or update an employee record. Make the change in Pave yourself.

I cannot share a conversation with a colleague: Conversations cannot be shared. Download the result and share the file instead.
