Overview

The worksheet is where planners make compensation decisions. It shows every employee assigned to them, with columns for current pay, proposed changes, band positioning, and any other data the admin has configured. This guide walks through every part of the worksheet so you can navigate it confidently.

Your planning journey at a glance

  1. Open your worksheet and check the status banner to see if your employees are ready to review or if you're waiting on downstream planners.
  2. Review your budget at the top to understand how much you have to allocate.
  3. Adjust your view using the control bar toggles (percent/cash, currency, monthly/annual) to display data in the format you prefer.
  4. Filter and sort to prioritize the employees that need the most attention -- flagged employees, those outside recommendations, or specific departments.
  5. Click into individual employees to review their full compensation history, peer comparisons, and context.
  6. Enter compensation decisions directly in the grid. Edits save automatically as you work.
  7. Check your budget as you go to make sure you're staying within your allocation.
  8. Resolve any flags or conflicts -- address hard stops and add justification for soft stops before submitting.
  9. Submit your worksheet when all employees have been reviewed. Employees move to the next planner in the approval chain.

Status banner

The banner at the top of the worksheet tells you where things stand and what you need to do next.

Banner stateWhat it means
Awaiting submissionsManagers below you in the approval chain haven't submitted yet. You can't edit those employees until they do, or until you pull them up.
Make adjustments and review all employeesYour employees are ready to review. Adjustments save automatically as you work.
Worksheet submittedYou've submitted all employees. No further changes can be made.

If planning windows are configured, the banner also shows your window timeline: how many days until your window starts, how many days remain, or that your window has ended.

Budget spend

Below the status banner, the budget widget shows your spend against each configured budget, grouped by cash and equity.

For each budget you see:

  • The budget name and total allocation
  • How much you've spent and the percentage used
  • A progress bar that turns red when you're over budget
  • Holdback amount, if applicable

For top-down budgets, you can use the planner dropdown to view other planners' budgets (if your permissions allow) and click "Filter employees to selected planner" to narrow the grid to that planner's employees.

Click View details to open the full budgets dashboard.

Cycle progress

If planning windows are configured and you have dashboard access, a cycle progress widget appears showing where the cycle stands across all planners. Click View details to open the full cycle progress dashboard.

Control bar

The control bar sits above the employee grid and gives you toggles to change how data displays.

  • Percent / cash toggle: Switch raise columns between showing values as dollar amounts or percentages. When set to percent, salary raise values display as a percentage of the employee's current salary.
  • Currency toggle: Switch between viewing compensation in the cycle's base currency or each employee's local currency.
  • Annual / monthly toggle: If your cycle supports monthly display, switch between annual and monthly views. This divides all salary values by 12 for display. Inputs are always stored as annual values.

Filtering and searching

Use filters to focus on the employees that need your attention.

Status filter: Filter by approval status to see only employees that are in your worksheet, pending submission from a downstream planner, or already submitted.

Planner filter: If you manage other planners, filter to see only employees assigned to a specific planner below you.

Quick filters: The More menu contains additional filters:

  • Compensation conflicts: Show employees with hard or soft stop violations
  • Unsaved changes: Show employees with pending edits
  • Direct reports: Show only your direct reports (if applicable)
  • Flagged: Show only employees with smart flag alerts
  • Outside recommendations: Show employees whose values differ from the recommendation
  • Missing approval chains: Show employees without an approval chain configured
  • Smart flags: Filter by specific flag types
  • Compensation ranges: Filter by band
  • Column filters: Filter by any column's values (department, level, performance, etc.)

Search

Search for a specific employee by name or email.

The employee grid

The grid is where you review and edit compensation decisions.

Reading the grid: Each row is an employee. Columns show their current data, your proposed changes, and computed outcomes. Color-coded smart flags appear as visual indicators on flagged rows. Recommendations (if configured) appear as suggested values within input cells.

Editing values: Click into any editable cell to enter a value. Edits save automatically. For currency inputs, you can type a dollar amount or a percentage depending on the active toggle. For dropdown columns (like performance rating), click to select from the list.

Sorting: Click any column header to sort by that column. Click again to reverse the sort direction. You can sort by multiple columns.

Pinning columns: Pin columns to freeze them in place as you scroll horizontally. The Employee column is always pinned.

Showing and hiding columns: Planners can toggle column visibility to show or hide specific columns. Columns that the admin set to "off" by default are hidden initially but can be toggled on if you want to see them.

Resizing and reordering columns: Drag column borders to resize them, or drag column headers to reorder them. The Employee column always stays first.

Clicking into an employee: Click an employee's name to open their detail panel, which includes their full compensation history, AI-generated summary, peer comparison, and smart flag details. For a full guide, see Using the employee detail view.

Bulk actions

Select one or more employees using the row checkboxes to access bulk actions:

  • Pull up: Move employees who are pending submission into your worksheet so you can begin reviewing them before the downstream planner submits. This is useful when you need to start planning but a manager below you hasn't finished yet.

Downloading your worksheet

Click the download button in the grid header to export your current worksheet as a CSV. The file is generated in the background and delivered via download link and email.

Submitting your worksheet

When you've reviewed all employees and are ready to finalize your decisions, click Submit Worksheet in the status banner.

Before you can submit

  • All employees must be in your worksheet (no pending submissions from downstream planners, unless you've pulled them up).
  • All edits must be saved (no unsaved changes).
  • Budget limits must be met (if any budgets have hard limits that can't be overridden).
  • Compensation control violations must be resolved (hard stops on smart flags must be addressed).

What happens when you submit

A confirmation modal shows a summary of all employees and the compensation changes you've proposed. Review and click Submit to confirm.

After submission:

  • Employees move to the next planner in the approval chain (or are finalized if you're the last planner).
  • The status banner updates to "Worksheet submitted."
  • You can no longer make changes.

If there are unresolved violations (budget limits exceeded, hard stop flags), the system shows an error modal listing the specific issues. Click Review employees to jump directly to the affected rows and resolve them before resubmitting.

Things to know

  • Edits save automatically. You don't need to click a save button. Changes are saved as you type with a brief delay.
  • Your view is yours. Column visibility and ordering preferences persist for your session. Other planners' views are independent.
  • Filters don't affect submissions. Filtering the grid changes what you see, not what gets submitted. When you submit, all employees in your worksheet are included.
  • You can come back anytime. The worksheet preserves your progress. Close the browser and return later; your edits are still there.
