General Configurations
The purpose of the equity slider is to help employees model how company growth scenarios impact the value of their equity. To this end, your company is able to customize each parameter so that the equity slider mirrors your company’s growth narrative, and how the variable nature of equity is discussed at your organization.
Equity slider settings are now customer facing!
From the Settings section of the platform, click the Communicate tab. Then, click Compensation from the list on the left side of the screen. Scroll down to view the Equity Slider settings.
Types of Equity Sliders
Choose one of three equity sliders to display in your Total Rewards and Visual Offer Letter experience. Keep in mind that the slider type you choose will apply to all equity sections that employees and candidates will see in Total Rewards (Options, RSUs, RSAs, Common Stock, etc). The following Growth Formats are available:
- Multiples: Show value growth as 1x, 2x, 3x etc multiples of your organization’s current valuation and/or share price. This slider type is frequently leveraged by early-mid stage startups.
- Percentages: Show value growth as a range in percentage increases based on your organization’s current valuation and/or share price. This slider type is frequently leveraged by late-stage startups and publicly traded companies.
- Open Editor: Users can model the value of their equity at specific share price values. Users can also input specific share price values to model the value of their equity at that price, as long as the inputted value falls within the company’s pre-specified range of values. Note that this type is currently only available in share price modeling, and valuation modeling cannot be used with this slider type. This slider type is frequently leveraged by publicly traded companies.
Detailed Configurations
Here are the additional ways you can customize the equity slider for your organization:
- Slider type: Choose whether your users can model growth by company share price and/or valuation
- Slider range: Set the min and max values of the slider (units will depend on the slider configuration type you choose– see the section below for details)
- Slider steps: Set the visible markers or ‘tick marks’ along the slider
- Slider default: Set the position on the slider that all users automatically default to when first logging into their Total Rewards portal
- Slider increments: Set the increments by which users can move the slider
Adding Slider Milestones
Slider milestones are a way for you to add commentary to positions along the slider, to give employees and candidates better contextual understanding of any key growth milestones for your organization. Customers frequently use Milestones to demarcate actual historic growth multiples for their company, mark valuations of peer companies at the time of their respective exits, or to highlight the company’s growth target over the next four years. You can set slider Milestones by either share price or valuation. Reach out to your Customer Success Manager to manage Milestones for your organization.
