How do I know that I am benchmarking against similar companies? Will Pave share who’s included in their benchmarking data set?
Our participating companies are mostly VC-backed tech companies ranging in all sizes from small startup to enterprise, however, there are also a few public companies in our dataset. Out of respect for the privacy of our participating companies and their employees, we don’t disclose exactly who is in our dataset.
The number of integrated companies, employee records, and VC partners grows with each new release. Our data diversity increases with each new integration!
What can I access in Pave that I can’t access in OI?
The primary difference between the data that Pave offers is the fact that it's real-time and integrations-based - in addition to being a superset of Pave and Option Impact data.
Will I still be able to fill out a survey? // Why can’t I still use the survey approach?
Pave operates under a give-to-get model. Surveys are error-prone and time-consuming to fill out, so Pave leverages integrations. This means that participating companies who share their HR data will unlock ongoing, free access to Pave benchmarking. To integrate with Pave, you’ll need to enter your HRIS credentials during the set up process, and cap table credentials if you want access to equity benchmarks. Once those systems are connected, you’re good to go - no more surveys required!
Can I build salary bands in Pave?
Customers of Pave can pull compensation data via our benchmarking bulk data export and construct bands using real-time market data. We plan on launching a formal band management product that integrates our market data into a band creation tool, helping you competitive compensate your employee base and build out your compensation philosophy.
Pave's product suite supports compensation bands for use in Compensation Planning and Team View.
How should I use both OI and Pave?
Many companies use multiple data sets in order to determine competitive compensation. After integrating with Pave you will have the opportunity to search data from Pave, Option Impact, and the combined data sets in order to reach a firm conclusion on what the market is compensating for a given role.
Why can’t I use the same filters as OI in Pave?
We know that Pave and Option Impact have some different choices for filtering and slicing the data. We are actively building out the robust set of features that will allow you to filter Pave data the same ways you're used to with Option Impact.
What is blended OI + Pave Data?
Pave is launching a feature within our application that allows our integrated customers to access both Pave's dataset and Option Impact's data within one product. This blended data will combine data points from both sets of customers into one, helping customers gain a more filled-in understanding of compensation.
Will Pave allow me to get more granular that 25%, 50%, 75% etc. of the market?
Pave allows you to benchmark the 10th, 25th, 50th, 75th, and 90th percentile of compensation data.
How are the levels and job families different from OI?
You will notice that there are many similarities between the job families. The main difference is Option Impact buckets the executive jobs as a separate family, so for example a CMO would be in the Executive Job Family in Option Impact but would be in the Marketing job family as an E9 level in Pave.
What if I can’t find the role or location I’m looking for?
Pave currently has about 40 distinct job families. We are working on expanding our dataset, so you may find that a specific role or job family you're looking to benchmark isn't represented in our dataset just yet.
For location, it is broken out into the following regions, markets & metros:
US
- Market
- All US locations
- Tier 1: SF/Bay Area, Seattle, Los Angeles, NYC
- Tier 2: Chicago, Austin, Denver, Boston, Washington DC, San Diego
- Tier 3: Other US metros
- Metro
- San Francisco Bay Area
- New York Metro Area
- Los Angeles Metro Area
- Boston Metro Area
Europe
- United Kingdom
If you are looking for a US-based location that is not in tier 1, tier 2, or a specific metro, it is best to use tier 3 or All US locations.
You can also reach out to us here or via the chat widget for assistance on pinpointing what best fits the role or location you are looking to benchmark!

How many data points does Pave have?

Why can’t I see exact sample sizes?
You can read more about Pave's sample size descriptions in this article.
Our Benchmarking product features a Sample Size column to help provide additional context regarding the number of compensation records included each Benchmarking search.
What features from OI will I eventually lose?
Pave will continue to run Option Impact for the foreseeable future. You can continue to submit your data through Option Impact to maintain access there.
