Auto-manager assignment eliminates the manual work of keeping manager permissions up-to-date by automatically syncing role assignment with your HRIS management hierarchy. You can simply enable auto-assignment, and Pave will ensure that managers always have access to the right data—without any ongoing maintenance from your team.

FAQ
-
How often does auto-assignment update?
Every time our data fetcher runs, we check for manager changes and update role assignments accordingly. -
What happens if my HRIS integration is paused?
We will not automatically update anything since we're not fetching new data. Auto-assignment resumes when the integration is active. -
What happens when I switch from automatic back to manual assignment?
We intentionally keep all users that were automatically assigned. This provides a better starting point since manager roles often align with but aren't perfectly one-to-one with other planning roles. -
Can I edit automatically assigned users?
No, you cannot edit individual users in auto-assigned roles. If you need to make manual changes, switch the role back to manual assignment. -
Which roles support auto-assignment?
Auto-assignment is not available for the default employee role or admin role. This is intentional as these roles have different permission requirements. -
What about absolute permissions?
You'll see warnings (but not blocking errors) when setting absolute permissions on auto-assigned roles. Absolute permissions carry more risk than relative permissions because assigned users get broad access not based on their actual reporting structure.
- Absolute permissions are when you're setting a fixed permission not based on the user's attributes (e.g. department = engineering)
- Relative permissions are when you're setting a permission based on the user (e.g. can see my full roll up)
